Our civil engineering team is licensed and experienced in projects such as: site grading, roads, street lighting, alternative septic design, water, and storm drain systems. We provide civil engineering solutions in the state of California, while balancing project design with cost effectiveness and site limitations.
Hogan Land Services specializes in structural engineering work for new residential structures, house remodel and addition projects, retaining wall designs, foundation designs, etc. In California, structural engineering must adhere to a set of governmental agency requirements know as the California Building Code (CBC).
At Hogan Land Services, Our professional land surveyors represent a range of disciplines and capabilities. With each project, we apply an effective solution tailored specifically for the clients' specific needs. We utilize the most modern and technologically advanced electronic equipment, data collectors, computers and software to take measurements efficiently, accurately, and precisely. We deliver professional land surveying services for both routine and challenging land development projects in California.
It would take an equivalent ground crew 1-2 days to cover the same amount of ground. The office processing currently takes a bit longer, but that's partly due to the newness of the software. The result is not just an image either, when we provide ground control points, we can produce an ortho-rectified image, topographic data and a 3D surface model depending on what is needed for the project.

At best these folks are severely incompetent but its borderline criminal. We worked with them for 2 years and wasted tens of thousands of dollars with their amateur services. After 8 months they doubled their original estimate because of the "surprise" that a residential property has a driveway. Yes. a driveway on a residential project is a surprise to these folks.
There were too many other fails to mention but the last straw was that they forced us into a septic system that costs several thousands a year to maintain and we found out from the county. Never did they think to communicate any decisions. The arrogance and ambivalence of Mike Hogan was just the cherry on top.

Hogan tried to get a lawyer to threaten me and sue me for slander for using my first amendment rights for writing a 100% true factual Yelp review about the deplorable "work" they did. I hired a ANTI SLAPP attorney and hoped they would sue as I would easily prevail. The business practice used on my elderly mother during covid was so unscrupulous, we considered filing suit for elder abuse, as they attempted to grossly over charge her for their mistakes and miscommunications, Eric was especially unscrupulous and totally inept at his simple job.
They had the nerve to charge us for miscommunications on their end and then had their lawyer threaten us and then back down and go silent when they realized they didn't have a leg to stand on. Don't walk. Run. I laughed when I saw their 101 billboard advertising themselves as first responders. They are first responders like a vulture is a first responder to road kill.
In other words, I am saying they engage in predatory business practices. If anybody else has been threatened with legal action for exposing these people please contact me and I can put you in touch with the best anti slapp attorney in northern California that already knows about these people. I am also happy to be a witness in any other legal action against this company. I have documents and emails that back up my claims here. I will testify to all facts above under oath in a court of law.

Careful with this company. During our rebuild from 2017, they made a mistake on property boundary causing problems with neighbor. (Used an old metal marker which was not propery boundary). Had to come back and resurvey. Expensive; They bill like lawyers. Saw an ad off of101 advertising themselves as second responders. What is that!

One caveat before you hire Hogan (or I'm assuming any qualified engineer) to help obtain a permit: In addition to the cost and fees for the permit itself, they bill for administrative fees on an hourly basis like an attorney's office. We had no prior experience with obtaining a County permit. When you make that first call and before you sign a contract, ask how long it could take for the permit process to play out and what the potential cost of hourly administrative fees could be so that you can financially prepare.
And if the permit process turns out to be lengthy and complex, keep asking those same questions so that you can continue to financially prepare for the cost of administrative fees. Also know that each time you communicate, you will likely be billed for their time to respond. In our experience with Ricardo Segura, we got what we paid for. He made sure that we were successful in obtaining a permit for a complex project. He was very kind to us throughout the process and remained steadfastly dedicated and involved during the pandemic until our project was finally completed.

Based on my experience, Hogan Land Services are either unethical or inept. They prepared a survey of land owned by a government agency for a government agency and included my property on their survey. Hogan survey used a survey from a third Government agency that clearly states it is "preliminary" and "not for public use". Regardless of the disclaimers, the Hogan survey claims approximately 1/3 of my land as being held under a Public Trust.
Both the surveyor Adam Rivera and the business owner, Mike Hogan, were contacted and asked to correct the survey on file with Sonoma County and, after asking for more and more time to address this, did nothing, and stopped returning our calls. This has been reported to the California Board of Surveyors and Engineers and we are considering legal action.

I would not recommend this company because they charge for every phone call you make, even when they don't show up to the appointment and you need to call to find out if they're coming. They will email you results and will call you to tell you over the phone same thing, so they can charge for that time. Be careful before you sign the contract with them!

These guys are AMAZING and issued our permits! We went to adobe Associates at first and Adobe said there is no way we will ever pass the perk test. They gave up on us after spending a ton of money. After that we went to Hogan and they got the permits issued. I highly recommend Hogan. They are always there even after hours to answer any questions you have. If we hadn't hired Hogan Land Services we would probably have never been able to build. Kyle and Daniel went above and beyond!

After struggling to get a "standard" sceptic system designed we called Hogan Land Services. Their people were great, offered a great compromise so we could avoid an expensive engineered system! That lead to using them to design our driveway, drainage and to engineer our house. After trying to deal with the county we bowed out and Mike's team went to work. talk about a stress reliever! A Giant THANK YOU doesn't really say it all but it's a good start. They made the whole process less stressful!

Great company staffed by great people. Very communicative even though they are very busy with all the work after the fires. I felt like I was well informed about scope, cost and timeline of our project. Thomas led our project and was very professional and kind. I highly recommend Hogan Land Services and would use them again in the future.

I've had extensive work over several years with these guys and they are great. Start with Sceptic. after sitting on a permit for several years it expired and the county told me i needed a new design that needed to be engineered. Called Hogan freaked out and in 2 minutes they checked out my plans told me they could do a couple of mods on it and it should be good.
They addressed the county for me and got it all approved. freak out issue ended by calm professionals. They did my grading and excavation plans. 9000cy moved so not a small job, 1200' long driveway. 8years later all drainage working flawlessly and no slumping in driveway. 4500sf house, engineered again by Hogan, helped me out several times after issues from inspectors. Hogan's engineers handled it all quickly. Having them in your corner is like having a great team of attorneys watching your back!
Just started plans for a granny unit, new sceptic and house plans. Again, lots of communication on cost and design before even starting. They deal with my neurotic behavior like the consumate professionals that they are. I've worked with a few different sceptic and civil outfits and these guys rock! They are intelligent, diligent and above all just great people to deal with. They support you when you need it and believe me if you are building a house and dealing with permits and inspections you are going to need it!

I typically don't write reviews, but I cannot thank Hogan Land Services enough for helping me over the past 4 weeks. After losing my house in the recent CA wildfires, I was overwhelmed by the clean up process. I decided I wanted to do a private clean-up, but wasn't sure where to start. Mike Hogan and his entire team at Hogan Land Services immediately stepped up to help me understand the process (which was frankly pretty confusing to everyone), get my clean-up permit form filled out and literally went with me to the city to get my permit approved.
They took something that has been incredibly stressful and made it easy and were so kind and sensitive to my loss. Thank you to the entire team and so happy you are a part of the Sonoma County community!

Well, I wish I could write something good and I'll try. Despite the fact I had a great and very informative conversation over the phone and I got a subsequent quote, the moment I asked for clarification and possible scheduling, none of my phone calls were returned. Luckily I spent no money, just wasted time. And this is before any of the fires in '17. Time to look for others. I guess my advice is if they do not return your calls then they must not think you're important enough to follow through.

My house is on a slab foundation that took on a lot of water during the monster rains we had last winter. I had a drainage system design done but wanted to get a second opinion before proceeding with $30,000 worth of work. Someone suggested Hogan Land Services so I contacted them. Dan and Jim came out this morning to talk with me and Dan was incredibly helpful with suggestions for how to seal the slab foundation inside the house as well as the drainage system design for the outside the house.
When I reached for my checkbook, Dan refused any payment saying it was only a half hour and they were glad to be of help. WOW! Minutes after they were gone Jim sent through a list of contractors they recommend as I would like to get a second bid for the drainage system. I wish I had known about them earlier.

I have been working with Hogan Land Services for about 3 years on a very complicated project. I found Hogan after leaving another firm that seemingly had no interest in actually completing anything for me, or even returning my phone calls. Daniel is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and has always treated me great. Everyone at Hogan is very friendly and accommodating, They have done a great job with my project, I could not be happier with the service I have received.

Mike and his team helped us get our property ready for a new septic system. They seamlessly handled the entire surveying and permitting process, making sure that everything was in order for the contractor to put in the system. When we ran into timing issues with our permits - while racing the rain - the whole team from Hogan pitched in and made sure that everything happened on time including negotiations between the contractor and the county permitting department. We cant thank them enough for all the hard work.

These guys are good. They helped me get my use permit for Ahh Winery in Glen Ellen. I was trying to do it on my own. If I value my time at $20/hour to work on things I'm OK at but not expert in, I saved a bunch of money having their expertise, and I'm not sure I would have ever gotten the permit. If you have hit the wall with another firm, try this one.
