I have recently accepted a position as the Director of Research and Development at Ramsay Highlander. I am preserving this website so that former customers can continue to gain me if they have questions, but I have shut down my consulting business. I have designed, launched and supported numerous products including hydraulic trailers, military wreckers, aircraft cargo loaders, and motorcycles.
Services
The array of engineering projects I have worked on is diverse, but the one common element is they virtually always involved mobile equipment. My machine design experience has included equipment for the construction industry, agriculture, aircraft ground support equipment, and military. These machines were towed, propelled with a hydraulic wheel drive, track drive, or electric ground drive.
Mobile hydraulic systems pose a unique set of design challenges. The hydraulic tanks tend to be small, and often times the packaging problems are significant. My experience designing hydraulic systems for mobile equipment has ranged from systems with a few simple functions to complex designs with proportional control and feedback.
Stress analysis is an invaluable engineering tool when applied to mobile equipment design. Weight is an important issue on nearly all pieces of mobile equipment, and stress analysis allows designs to be strong and safe but still lightweight. When vibration is present, fatigue failures can become an issue.
Managing engineering projects involves managing technical decisions, people, and risk. Engineering managers also have to communicate clearly with vendors, other departments and customers, A manager will be better prepared to perform these diverse tasks if he has both machine design and management experience.
