Services
Peterson Structural Engineers is a single-discipline structural engineering firm, incorporated in 1997, that offers a full spectrum of structural engineering services. We are based on the west coast with offices in Portland, Oregon; Tacoma, Washington; and San Diego, California. Our team of engineers are licensed in more than 30 states across the U.S., in Guam, and in two Canadian provinces. Our clients include public and private agencies, business owners, general contractors, and residential homeowners.
Peterson Structural Engineers offers a full range of services in all the structural subcategories above, but if you have a project with a scope outside of these areas, please contact us to discuss. We are happy to help. Okay, everything we do is structural design or structural engineering-related but if you want to see an overarching, big picture summary of what we do, you can certainly start here.
Our most common projects are municipal and public facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants, water storage reservoirs, waterfront and port facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, parks and recreation facilities, and trail and/or light duty bridges. This gallery is just a mere sampling of the projects we've worked on over the years and what we're capable of. We look forward to working with you.

Anna answered the phone and was VERY unfriendly and very unenthusiastic. I greeted her in a bubbly matter and asked if I could ask her a few questions if she had a moment and she responded with "QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT?" Which I replied with " Ummmm the services you provide". She then responded with a dull tone and acted as if I inconvenienced her in the middle of her bad mood. You guys should maybe have someone who seems to enjoy her job a little more answer your phones. VERY unprofessional Karen. OOPs I mean ANNA!

I really thought this place would be 5 STARS. Boy was I wrong! I was in contact with one of their engineers and I told him about my situation. I stressed that time was very important. He gave me the run down of how they operate (collect $$$). I was shocked that I would be paying that much upfront even BEFORE a site visit but I decided that maybe these guys will be worth it.
I agreed to the terms and one of their engineers came in a couple days after. He told me he can help me and he advised me to take a memo he would write to the City of Portland. He should have this done no later than Tuesday but he would need to collect additional funds for it. So im into this business $1,000 for a site visit and memo now. He also stated he's working on big projects but he saves the last hour or two in his day for smaller ones like mine. Ok, so it's Tuesday and I ask him where's the memo.
Sorry no memo, i'll have it for you tomorrow. Again Wednesday no memo, sorry I had problems at the house I'll have it for you Thursday morning for sure. Thursday morning no memo, but I finally get one Thursday afternoon at 2:20PM. Ok, well that leaves me about an hr to review it, print it and then take it to residential night at the City of Portland.
I email him back on Friday with info I got to move forward. He doe not reply for A WEEK! Then after that he tells me this is not something he can help me with and if I did decide to ask for his help he would be a "few" weeks before he could help me. All in all I felt his communication was very poor. He never kept his word on times. He lacked professionalism.
I emailed him and ask for some reimbursement, he said he felt everything he did on his end was legit. Legit at empty promises? Legit at wasting my time and money? Where did my $1,000 go? He even added one of the upper management guys on the thread but he never said a word. I'm not one to ask for money back, but I feel like I wasted a lot of time and money for nothing.
I'm fine with paying someone for their time but he hardly did anything and for them to take $1,000 and think it's justified how everything went down is ridiculous. I've hired another guy to do the job, he's a fraction of their cost and is professional. STAY AWAY.

Peterson Structural Engineering firm, specifically Nicholas Welling, referred me to a man, JEFF SCOTT of JWS Consulting/JWS Home Consulting/JWS Contracting to draw up plans for a garage. Jeff Scott did not complete half of what he said he would do, overcharged me and now will not reply back to anything. When I did research, I found out he does not have a valid professional licence or valid company. Peterson Structural Engineers referred me to an illegal draftsman. Pathetic.
