TPS is committed to ensuring our clients can provide positive material identification in Green Bay to their customers in the products they provide. It is well known that mill certifications and heat markings alone can become unreadable. Since MTR's are provided at the mill, by the time the material is handled at the service center and subsequent fabricators the chance for errors increases. In some parts or products, this may not matter, but in critical applications, the failure could be catastrophic, or even deadly.
To qualify the procedure, TPS will work with a person within the company, or an agent of the company to weld a given material. Variables will be recorded such as travel speed, amperage, voltage, filler metal, base metal, gas, etc. In short, this piece proves that it "can be done." The one person that welds it will then be certified to perform that weld (within the allowable limits of the AWS code). This coupon will be subjected to specific testing by TPS, based on the code. It often will include tensile pulls, bends, etc.
