To start this off I need to say that I am not a poster and not a complainer. I own a small business and we strive to do our very best work for each customer. I also understand that you cannot please everyone, but I still make an effort to help people. My wife contacted LEI engineering after Home Adviser gave her their name and phone number. She was told that it would be $700.00 to locate the pins, which was payable before they would even set up an appointment.
She set up a time for a survey crew to come to our property and do the job. She was told that they would be at the residence at 2:00 P.M. One of us wanted to be there while they were conducting their business. She got home at about 1pm and waited until 3pm before she called their office and was told they had been to the residence at 11am (no phone call to tell us) because the job before didn't take as long as they had planned.
They also told her that they had found 3 of the 4 pins and couldn't find the 4th pin. I arrived home and found that they had marked the pins on the SW and SE corners and the one on the NW corner, but not the NE corner. The pins on the SW and SE corners were absolutely correct as they were clearly visible to the naked eye (on the surface of the ground ).
The one that they found on the NW corner was a total of 16 Ft. from where it was supposed to be. I dug around this supposed pin and found that it was an old 1/2 in. water pipe from an old irrigation system. The plat map issued from the county described the pins as (5/8 steel rod 3 feet long, ) When we called in to the office and told them that they had not found the 3rd pin, but an old pipe, we were told that it was too bad and that they did not plan to come out and reassess what they had marked.
At this point I was obviously upset and determined to find the 4th pin, so using the copy of the county plat map that LEI gave me (that has measurements and an original copy from the county that my wife had gone and gotten), my son and I spent 2 hours with a $40.00 garage sale metal detector and a measuring tape and found a 5/8 steel rod (The one that LEI could not find) on the NE corner.
This allowed, with triangulation, the ability to conclude the the one in the NW corner was way off, and we subsequently found it. I then left another message for the owner of LEI to call me so I could discuss this with him. Two days later I still had not heard from him, so I called again and he got on the phone. I explained the circumstances and was told that there was "NO WAY THEY MADE A MISTAKE, THEY HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 35 YEARS AND HAVE DONE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THESE JOBS EVERY YEAR".
After some arguing, he agreed to have the same engineers come back and look at the discovered pin and the water pipe. The guys said that the water pipe was "clearly not the MONUMENT, and that they were impressed that we found the fourth pin", they apologized and admitted that they had messed up! This was done on 08-19-20, and to this day 2-13-21 I have heard NOTHING from the owner as far as any kind of an apology or any kind of offer to discount the $700.00 for 2 of the pins that they couldn't find.
Although they found where 2 of the pins were, they totally botched where the third one was, and could not find where the fourth one was! Not to mention, we didn't get any kind of written report about the job! This is un-professionalism at its absolutely finest! Thank you!
