Larsen Engineering is a structural engineering and consulting firm established in 1991 in Sausalito, California. Henry Larsen, principal engineer, has worked in the engineering and construction business for over 30 years. Our clients include architects, contractors, developers and homeowners. We have been involved in over 1,000 projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our work is primarily structural engineering for residential and commercial construction. We are located in Marin County and are experienced in working with city and county agencies.

Services
Larsen Engineering specializes in structural engineering. We work primarily on wood frame buildings for residential and commercial use and specialize in the steep hillside construction that is so common in coastal Northern California. A typical project can include wood framing, concrete retaining walls, deep drilled piers for hillside foundations, and seismic bracing using plywood shear walls and/or welded steel framing.
Larsen Engineering works primarily with wood frame buildings-both residential and commercial-providing the necessary "structural skeleton" for many types of architect designed projects. In the San Francisco Bay Area environment of steep hillsides, difficult soil conditions, earthquakes, and the need to preserve often stunning views, wood frame structural engineering requires a multitude of disciplines and materials.
Larsen Engineering works on many sites located on steep hillsides in Marin County. These projects often require extensive retaining walls as a part of the foundation itself. Additional retaining walls are typically needed for surrounding landscape, driveway, and parking areas. We use the project Soils Engineer's findings for foundation design, including size and depth of drilled piers for anchorage into bedrock, size of footings, and for the most difficult sites, "soil nails" or high-capacity tie-backs.
Larsen Engineering maintains familiarity with the ever-changing standards of seismic analysis and design primarily through its association with the Structural Engineering Association of Northern California. Structures are subject to permanent "dead" weight of the structure, temporary "live" load of contents and occupants, and lateral loads from wind or earthquake (seismic) forces.
