The Green Engineer, Inc. is a sustainable design consulting firm specializing in energy efficient and sustainable design solutions for the built environment. Founded in 2005 by Chris Schaffner, PE, LEED Fellow, the firm has 24 employees, of which 22 are LEED-Accredited Professionals. The expert team brings to the table experience and perspective from a variety of backgrounds including engineering, architecture, construction, planning, development, and public policy.We practice Integrative Design and see sustainability as a core goal shared by design team members and stakeholders.
We offer conceptual advice, design reviews, project assessment, and sustainable cost-benefit analysis depending on project scope and requirements. Our experience with the LEED process enables your team to successfully and efficiently use the USGBC's LEED Green Building Rating System. We perform the key computations needed to quantify the strengths of different design options that will be useful throughout the project. Early energy modeling is critical to successful, cost-effective sustainable design.
Chris Schaffner is founder and CEO of The Green Engineer, Inc. Chris has 32 years of experience in the design of building systems with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T., and is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, California, and Vermont.
The Green Engineer works with a wide variety of clients that range from architects and engineers, to organizations and institutions from the public, private, academic/research, and non-profit sectors. In addition, The Green Engineer provides energy modeling services to several regional utility companies.
