I had them design a beam for me, after installation I observed cracks in the exterior walls that continued to propagate. It took me months to get them to take a look at it, after they rescheduled a few times I finally met an intern who took a couple of pictures and left. After another month of calling they finally sent me a $250 invoice to discuss their observations/ recommendations. What were their observations you ask? Cracks. We see cracks in the wall, they might be getting bigger, we dont know. You should just repoint the mortar.

Blackhawk Engineering provided an assessment of our home's foundation for potential buyers. They sent an intern with a camera phone, and no other company employee visited the property. Their subsequent recommendation was completely refuted by three separate, unaffiliated professionals, including a foundation specialists, a home inspector, and a licensed structural engineer. Blackhawk's assessment was based on a visual inspection above grade - no inspection below grade was made, and the above ground portion was almost completely obscured by an exterior stucco-type finish.
Other licenced professionals viewed the property in person and insisted on the removal of soil and part of the exterior finish. Blackhawk asserted that CMU blocks (not visible) resting on a concreted base (not visible) were unstable. Their proposed remedy relied on the absurd concept that the blocks could be secured by reinforcing the base below grade.
The idea defies common sense and confounded the other professionals who viewed the property. Foundation specialists recommended by Blackhawk provided an estimate for this work, following Blackhawk's recommendations to the letter. They quoted a figure in excess of $25,000. The actual repair undertaken cost $600 and addressed the cosmetic exterior only, as recommended by the three other professionals. Blackhawk Engineering serves as an example of how unscrupulous industry professionals can be. I tip my hat to those other professionals who understand the importance of integrity.
